"Don't fight, preserve your energy. You will need it."
Releasing the tension in my muscles, I cede to his suggestion.
"Very good. There is no sense fighting. You know better than anyone that these servant quarters are impenetrable. Do I need say more?"
I attempt to nod, but can't move my head more than a centimeter in any direction. He laughs, his voice deeper than his age and cherub face might suggest. The sound moves closer and I feel his body heat rubbing against my ribs.
His lips press against my ear, "Don't scream."
I hear the sound before the pain hits as he yanks the adhesive tape from my mouth to remove the cloth. Gagging, I suck in air, not ready to be angry at his constant laughing, which thunders down at me.
"You better explain this...and quickly," I say. "I'm alive, which means you won't kill me. However, the moment I'm released I will kill you unless you talk...now."
He stops laughing and grabs a handful of my hair. Pain shoots down my spine when he yanks a few strands free from the root.
"Nothing will stop me from enjoying you. I've waited..." he begins. Letting my hair go, he moves away from the bed, his footsteps getting softer and harder to trace.
I breathe and try to relax my mind. There is a puzzle here and I need to solve it five minutes ago.
"You really don't know, do you?" he asks, suddenly quite close again.
Or he can just tell me. It can't be that easy.
He whispers to me and I can't suppress a shiver, "I want to see Ray about something he did to me."
What? How can Ray be involved with this? "We can play riddle me this or you can just tell me, because I don't know what you mean."
"Ray killed my father."
